Here’s a great leasing idea shared with us by Kala Chitenden in Phoenix. Kayla writes that with an average vacancy rate in her market of 12%, they really have to get creative. She got involved with a local radio station that’s running a “Million Can Crusade” to bring in one million canned food items for the local food bank. She didn’t take a lot of time to plan—just called the radio station as soon as she heard their announcement, and the idea took off from there! Kayla was able to get her property involved, get on the air to give her property address, AND let everyone know that if they donated 20 cans, they’d receive $500 off their move-in on top of the move-in special already underway. She also promoted the event with flyers, making the total cost about $20 for paper plus the $500 discount on each move-in. This allowed new residents to get a great move-in deal and helped the local community at the same time! The program is still underway, but she’s already received lots of phone calls and two leases!
