The Dorothy Gourley & Russ Sandlin Brainstorming Scholarship is awarded each year to one deserving Multifamily Professional who is a first-time Brainstorming attendee, and demonstrates exceptional initiative. The Scholarship includes complete round trip-airfare to the event; a three-night stay at the event hotel (Tuesday-Thursday of event week); complimentary coverage of the winner’s Main Event Brainstorming registration; and one complimentary ticket to the Brainstorming Trends Lunch. The intent of the scholarship is to provide one deserving individual with the opportunity to experience Brainstorming for the very first time, in honor of our dear friends who counted Brainstorming among their favorite events of the year.
To apply, please complete the form below no later than August 30, 2012. At that time, all entries will be carefully considered and the winner selected no later than September 31, 2012. The winner will first be notified personally; and upon his/her acceptance of the award, will be announced industry-wide via Multifamilypro.com and our various media outlets.
The scholarship is named with many happy memories of our dear friends, Dorothy Gourley Shaw and Russ Sandlin.
Dorothy Gourley Shaw served our industry with profound grace, dedication, and talent for decades as an educator, author, entrepreneur and mentor. She was born in Detroit and lived in Santa Ana and other Orange County cities for over 50 years. Dorothy had a lifetime teaching credential from UCLA, was VP of Arnel Management Company in the 70s, owned her own Multifamily consulting company (Dorothy Gourley & Associates) for over 20 years, authored eight books, served on the board of directors of the Apartment Association of Orange County, had a lifetime achievement award named in her honor, was a founding member of the Crystal Cathedral and, in retirement, volunteered as a New Hope counselor, traveled the world, and became a prolific artist.
Russ Sandlin began his career in 1975 as a Maintenance Supervisor, and advanced through the ranks to become Vice President and Director of Training for R&B Management before forming his own consulting firm in 1983. In 2000, Russ took a position with MRI/Intuit to guide the development of their web based property management solution; and working closely with industry giants like Equity Residential, ArchstoneSmith, ConAm, The Dolben Company, Village Green, Mid-America Communities, Post Properties, Julian LeCraw, Home Properties and more, he helped to define the change management process that guided organizations large and small into the new realm of Internet connectivity. Russ left MRI/Intuit in 2006 and returned to consulting, focusing his 33 years of experience on creating spectacular success in companies across the country. He leaves behind an example of all that hard work and ingenuity can do, both on a personal level and in service to our industry.
