New Facilitator Qualifications & Responsibilities
As a Facilitator, please recognize that you’re in an enviable position. Brainstormers will approach you throughout the event to ask how they can become a Facilitator too. Begin by giving them a copy of the 1/4 page “Facilitator’s Responsibilities” slip included here, along with a Trainee ribbon (they have to wear the ribbon on Day One so that our staff and other Facilitators will recognize them as a potential candidate for the next event). Next, obtain a business card from them. At the end of or during the session, take a moment (while the encounter is still fresh in your mind) to note on the back of their business card whether you consider them a fair, good, or excellent candidate to serve as a Facilitator in the future. We suggest three symbols: a square (not quite ready – “too square”), a circle (well rounded, would make a good candidate), or a star (excellent, superstar candidate). Use of these symbols will allow you to give us your opinion discreetly. Please sign or initial the card so that we know that it came from you and place the business card back in the bag.
Please ask for a business card from every Facilitator Candidate that sits at your table throughout the event, even if you weren’t the facilitator who gave them their ribbon. This way, we receive a variety of evaluations for each candidate, and can make a more educated decision regarding their suitability.
At the end of the event, place your “rated” candidate business cards in the ziploc along with your unused Trainee ribbons before returning your notebook to a member of the Multifamilypro Staff at the event registration desk.
You are under no obligation to provide your highest recommendation, and we sincerely hope that you’ll reserve it for ONLY those Brainstormers whom not only meet the criteria listed below, but have earned your true support as someone who would make a great asset to our next team of Facilitators. General qualifications include that they must:
Have attended The Brainstorming Sessions at least twice;
Have served as a scribe for at least five sessions;
Be referred by two current Facilitators who have either Brainstormed with them or know them well enough to offer a recommendation;
Must have contributed significantly to the success and spirit of the event (non-monetarily); and
Aspire to the position with a desire to share their unique professional talents and experience with their fellow Brainstormers, and to play a special role in the event – not merely with a desire to become a member of an exclusive and elite “clique”.
FACILITATOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Must be available to attend a Facilitator’s Orientation Meeting (if scheduled) prior to the start of the next Brainstorming event that you wish to facilitate for.
Must be available to attend all three days of the event, from beginning to end.
Must put the attendees needs above their own.
Must be willing to dress in costume for Brainstorming.
Must support the event staff by cleaning up tables and re-sorting table toys, books and other tools at the end of each day.
Facilitators are the “cheerleaders” of Brainstorming – when it’s time to sing, dance, play, create, inspire, guide, enlighten, enliven, cheer, and get down to business – they lead by example.
